In a subdued style, the book offers beautiful, expressive images and a wealth of important detailed information. The fascination with this extreme race event, which took place over 18 years, lay precisely in the atmosphere (the enthusiasm of the local population, the food, and the organizational imperfections), which regularly attracted the biggest names in motorsport. Ed Heuvink clearly captured this unique mix, which naturally could not be matched at any other circuit. Also unique (and incomparable) is the racing career of Nino Vaccarella, which could only have unfolded at the Targa Florio and only during that specific period. The dynamic development of the cars' performance naturally clashed with certain safety considerations. It eventually became clear that this kind of race event simply had no future. Ed Heuvink has written a wonderful book.
