Description from the seller
Albert Steiner – Engadiner Landschaften. Ausgewählte Aufnahmen
Zürich, Gebr. Fretz AG, (1927).
A classic and highly sought-after photobook by one of Switzerland's most important 20th-century photographers, Albert Steiner (1877–1965).
This rare first edition features 28 exquisite duo-tone photogravure plates capturing the dramatic and timeless beauty of the Engadine valley landscapes – majestic Alpine peaks, serene lakes, and atmospheric mountain scenes that reflect Steiner's profound respect for nature and his artistic mastery of light and composition.
With an introductory text by Erwin Poeschel. Folio format (approx. 33 x 24 cm), original tan cloth binding with gilt embossed title on front cover and spine.
Condition:
Overall good condition for its age, with the binding fully intact and solid. The photogravure plates are in good condition, retaining strong contrast and detail. Printed on white pages, showing some age-related staining and foxing, as expected in a nearly 100-year-old volume. The gilt lettering on the cover and spine shows fading, particularly around the edges, adding to the book's authentic vintage character.
A complete and attractive copy of this iconic Swiss photography book, ideal for collectors of early 20th-century photobooks or Alpine imagery. No markings, tears, or loose pages noted. A wonderful example of Steiner's romantic yet meticulously structured landscape photography.
