Wooden antique Rococo-style mirror from Italy, dating circa 1900, with a finely carved and gilded frame; overall dimensions 113 cm high by 72 cm wide; condition: worn with possible small losses.
Description from the seller
Carved and gilded wood table mirror – Italy, circa 1900
Important wooden table mirror, finely carved and gilded, of Italian manufacture, dating around 1900, attributable to the late Baroque / Rococo style.
The frame, of high craftsmanship quality, features a rich decorative array of scrolls, leaves, and shell motifs, with an elegant shaped upper crest ('crown') and front feet that allow it to rest on a console or chest of drawers. The carving is deep and lively, typical of the Italian artisanal tradition of the period.
The original gilding (likely leaf or mecca) is now heavily patinated and worn, with charming signs of age that lend authenticity and character to the object.
The mirror appears not to be contemporary, probably replaced at a later date, as is often the case with artifacts of this age.
Condition
The work is presented in conditions consistent with its age.
Diffuse wear on the gold plating.
Features and small imperfections of the wood.
• old restorations (glue?) and structural consolidations, especially visible in the carved parts and on the back of the cimasa.
Overall stable structure.
No recent interventions have been carried out; the object is presented in its current state, not restored, as per photographs.
Dimensions
Height: 113 cm
Width: 72 cm
(comprehensive measurements of the frame and the cornice/crown)
