AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Rare old lid/cover box/pot/chest from the Ashanti/Akan people of Ghana. Special boxes with a distinctive scene on the top. The Ashanti, Asante, mastered the art of lost-wax casting, sacred copper alloy, and were considered inferior to gold, to produce ritual and prestige objects, such as the Kuduo brass intended for storing gold dust, for domestic and cult-royals. Offerings and libations were sometimes attributed to them. The platform on the lid of this kuduo evokes court life; musicians surround the king, sheltered under the royal parasol kyiné, the latter associated with the protective tree gyedua. The chief was accompanied by this parasol on all his travels. The decorative motifs around the rim, however, are derived from Islamic traditions. In good condition.
