Conidae shell specimen of Conus magus forma circae from New Caledonia, 2024, one item, weight 18 g, with a slender conical shell about 52.5 mm long.
Description from the seller
The circae form, described by G. B. Sowerby II in 1858, is generally understood as a color and morphological variant of Conus magus.
Although the name Conus circae is present in some modern classifications as a distinct species, in traditional malacology and collecting this entity is more correctly treated as an intraspecific form, by virtue of morphological continuity, overlapping range, and the absence of diagnostic characters clearly separating it from the typical form of C. magus. The designation as Conus (Pionoconus) magus f. circae thus represents the most balanced and widely accepted solution for scientific descriptions applied to collecting. A 52.5 mm specimen, with a slender conical shell, regular profile and moderately angulated shoulder. The spire is mid-high, composed of clearly defined whorls, ornamented with irregular brown-dark maculations and striations concentrated especially in the apical region.
