Saul Leiter - Early Black and White - 2014

Original box set dedicated to Saul Leiter's black-and-white early work, one of the great masters of photography of the 20th century. Early Black and White gathers images created between the 1940s and 1950s, a pivotal period in which the intimate, lyrical, and deeply modern gaze takes shape that will render Leiter a key figure in American photography.

The photographs, predominantly New York street photography, reveal a refined use of light, shadows, and urban geometries, foreshadowing many of the visual solutions that will characterize his color work. Everyday scenes, figures caught in passing, reflections, and suspended atmospheres compose a silent, poetic narrative of the city.

The volume is presented in a box set, in its first edition, and is regarded as one of the most important publications for understanding Saul Leiter's formative phase.
