Two wooden Lobi ancestor figures from Burkina Faso, late 20th century, in good condition, from a private Dutch collection; the smaller male figure is 24 cm tall and the taller female figure 29 cm tall.

Two beautiful wooden ancestoral figures used on family altars to facilitate the communication with ancestors in times of need. Carved in a very traditional Lobi-style.
The smaller figure, representing a male, has a nice expressive face, carved with typical slit-eyes and the arms slightly folded alongside the body. Height.;24 cm.
The taller figure , on a socle, carved in a slender fashion, represents a female figure. carved in a special way with small slit-eyes and oversized ears. The hairdo extends into the neck; almost helm-like. Very long neck. Arms straight alongside the body. Protruding butt. The feet dissapear into a massive base. Very nice brown patina.
