Description from the seller

IMPORTANT: THIS UNIT IS ORIGINAL JAPANESE, ASSEMBLED ENTIRELY BY HAND AND OPERATES AT 100 VOLTS. Therefore a transformer is required in countries with a different voltage.

SONY TA-N900. ¥ 250,000 (around 1980)

The second ESPRIT unit and Best Stereo Sound Product in the winter of 1981, together with the TA-E900 companion.

A mono power amplifier developed without compromise in terms of components, circuitry, power supply, construction, and even interfaces.

The TA-N900 uses this power MOSFET and also employs a recently developed distortion-reduction circuit that allows the power element to operate in Class A in most regions while controlling the drive voltage to correct the linearity of the power stage.

The power supply section uses an improved pulse-blocked power supply (PLPS).

The power supply is Sony's pulse-blocking power supply, which chops the AC at 20 kHz; heat regulation is achieved with a heat tube connected to a BSL wheel fan for an accelerated airflow of 200 W in Class A.

Equipped with a protection circuit, it detects the DC voltage at the output of the power amplifier, the temperature of the power MOSFET, and the load impedance, and when the speaker or the power amplifier becomes dangerous, the output is cut off and the speaker and the TA -N900 are turned off. Protected.

Equipped with a speaker impedance switch to drive 8Ω/4Ω/2Ω speakers in the most efficient and stable way.

This controls the voltage supply to the power stage of the pulse-blocking power supply so that the nominal output is 200 W in pure Class A, in each position, which allows it to respond to differences in speaker loads.

Additionally, when using a 16Ω speaker, the output will be 100W in the 8Ω setting.

Uses a high-efficiency cooling system that employs heat pipes and cross-flow fans, achieving a high-performance 200W amplifier despite its small size and slim profile.

This heat pipe is an application of spacecraft thermal management technology and has a thermal conductivity hundreds of times greater than that of a metal rod of the same diameter.

The cross-flow fan uses the BSL motor (brushless and slotless) with linear torque used in Sony’s player and cassette systems, which supports a quiet and reliable cooling system. This two-stage cooling structure allows the output elements to be concentrated in one place, greatly shortening the wiring around the elements through which large currents flow and suppressing the effect on sound quality caused by electromagnetic waves jumping to the previous stage.

This unmodified original Japanese import also has a much lower standby power consumption.

One more reason to buy 100V devices!

Original*) 100V, imported from Japan, in very good technical and optical condition.
