Pair of vintage bronze door knockers featuring horse heads inside a horseshoe frame, dating to the 1960s and of Italian origin.
Description from the seller
Pair of bronze door knockers with horse head designs – Decorative sculpture of the 20th century
Elegant pair of door knockers cast in bronze, depicting two vigorous horse heads set within a large horseshoe-shaped bracket. The specimens, mirror images and coherent with each other, display careful and plastic modeling, with particular attention to the animals’ expression, the rendering of the snout, ears, and mane, elements that confer strong character and scenographic presence. The surface shows a natural dark patina, with slight signs of wear and oxidation consistent with age, enhancing their authenticity and decorative appearance. The knockers date to the twentieth century, plausibly the mid-century, and can be traced to a European production with eclectic and neoclassical taste, likely of Italian or French origin, inspired by the tradition of monumental door fixtures and representative architectural interiors. Complete with the original mounting pins, they are suitable both for functional use as knockers for imposing doors, and as decorative elements for collection or interior design.
