Description from the seller
Monumental Art Nouveau Fireplace Fan – 9-Panel Sliding Brass Fire Screen, Early 20th Century.
Historical notes
Between the end of the 19th century and the early decades of the 20th, the fireplace was the centerpiece of the European bourgeois home. In this context, fireplace fans spread, functional elements designed to regulate the propagation of heat and at the same time genuine objects of applied art.
During the Liberty / Art Nouveau period, such objects took on monumental and decorative forms, characterized by naturalistic motifs, elegant openwork, and refined mechanical solutions. Today they are regarded as rare historical furnishings for collectors.
