During the 1959 'Kind of Blue' sessions, which featured John Coltrane, Miles Davis provided his sextet with a schematic framework for the modal improvisations that would make up the album. Davis used the piano as a compositional tool. This rare shot of Miles gives a candid glimpse into his working methods as well as a glimpse into the studio atmosphere.
