Description from the seller
Erwin Olaf - Own - Works 1984-2012 - 2012 - 33x29cm - Lido - 348pp.
ErWin Olaf: Own: Works 1984-2012 Javier Panera; Natacha Wolinski
Erwin Olaf, who combines photojournalism with highly stylized studio photography, broke through onto the international art scene in 1988 when his series Chessmen won the top prize in the Young European Photographer competition. That prize was followed in the same year by an exhibition at the Ludwig Museum in Cologne, Germany.
From early on Olaf tackled sensitive issues such as class, race, gender, and religious conviction. His noir-esque style, infused with mid-50s America, was embraced by the advertising world, leading to worldwide campaigns for Diesel Jeans and Heineken (with which he won the highly coveted Silver Lion at the Cannes Lions Festival for Advertising).
Beyond his commercial work, Olaf undermines the ideal of domestic happiness in recent series such as Rain (2004), Hope (2005), Grief (2007) and Fall (2008), while Dusk (2009) and Dawn (2010) show how culture can lead to oppression.
A similar detachment occurs in the Hotel series (2010), in which he explores a range of melancholic emotions in poorly lit, beautifully furnished hotel rooms from the fifties.
In addition to new and unpublished work, this book, now in its second edition, offers an overview of all the personal (non-commercial) work Olaf has produced over the past 25 years.
Shipping: Will be properly packed and shipped with track & trace via PostNL.
