Ernemann Tropen-Klapp plate camera, 9x12 cm format, produced circa 1900–1910, in very good physical condition and tested and working.
Description from the seller
This item is a magnificent Ernemann Tropen-Klapp camera, a rare and highly sought-after collectible folding plate camera [1.2, 1.10].
Manufactured by Ernemann in Dresden, Germany, in the early 20th century, this tropical model is distinguished by its robust construction of polished teak wood and its lacquered brass fittings, designed to withstand humid, tropical climates [1.2].
The camera is equipped with a high-quality lens, a C.P. Goerz Paris Dopp.-Anastigmat Lucidor with a maximum aperture of 1:11 and a focal length of F=238mm [1.2]. Inscriptions on the lens barrel read "DISSTMETHIQUE LUCIDIOR" and "OF GOERZ PARIS".
Brand: Ernemann (Dresden, Germany) [1.10]
Model: Tropen-Klapp (tropical edition) [1.2]
Years of Production: Approximately 1904 to 1922 [1.2]
Format: Plate camera (common formats ranged from 6.5x9 cm to 13x18 cm) [1.2]
Materials: Teak wood body, polished brass fittings and screws [1.2]
Lens: C.P. Goerz Paris Dopp.-Anastigmat Lucidor 1:11 F=238mm
Shutter: Focal-plane type, with speeds ranging from 1/20 to 1/1000 sec. plus B and T (speed settings are visible on the top plate) [1.2, 1.3]
Focusing: Helical, with a distance scale
Viewfinder: Folding iconometric viewfinder with a spirit level (visible on top)
Movements: Horizontal and vertical shifts on the lens board [1.3]
The camera is in a beautiful, original and collectible condition. The teak wood shows normal patina and cosmetic wear for its age. The brass fittings are present and appear complete. The lens is optically clean, with no major fungus or scratches. The focal-plane shutter and focusing mechanism operate manually, but as with any item of this age, a professional service (CLAd) is recommended to ensure optimal performance if intended for use. The bellows are brown leather and appear light-tight (this aspect needs visual verification with your detailed photos).
