Description from the seller

Decorative bronze plaque – "Europe and the Bull" – Late 19th / early 20th century

Decorative plaque in solid bronze depicting the mythological scene of the kidnapping of Europe by Zeus, transformed into a bull. The relief is finely worked: female figures, the motion of the bull, and stylized waves. Decorative work of high quality, typical of French or European productions from the late 19th to the early 20th century.
The reverse side bears a diamond-shaped punch with two interlaced 'S's, probably the mark of the founder or workshop (not identified).
