Ecclesiastical brass seal mounted on a turned wooden handle, dating from the 19th century, with the imprint of a mitred bishop holding his crozier and an authentic aged patina.
Description from the seller
Old ecclesiastical badge – 19th century
Antique seal in solid brass, mounted on a turned wooden handle, bearing the imprint of a mitred bishop holding his crozier. The peripheral inscription reads: "S. AIGNAN DE MOULINS-LES-NOYERS · Near the Church of Sens".
It is clearly a parish or confraternity seal, probably made in the 19th century based on the engraving style (naive but clear lines, classic text layout, regular capital letters) and the shape of the handle.
The brass shows an authentic, old patina, without over-polishing.
The wooden handle has some violet ink stains, typical of old usage in a presbytery or sacristy.
Dimensions: Total height: 12 cm - Matrix diameter: 3.5 cm
Provenance: Private collection.
Photos are an integral part of the description of the objects and complement their presentation. They allow you to assess their condition and characteristics. Please examine them carefully before any commitment.
