Italian porcelain plate dating to circa 1800–1850, in good used condition with minor signs of age, diameter 21 cm, height 2.5 cm, and depth 21 cm, hand‑painted in the Empire style with a central miniature of the Public Scrivener and a gilded relief edge, featuring the inscription Si scrive e si traduce il Francese and tied to the Mestieri iconography.
Description from the seller
An incredible collectible plate in fine porcelain, entirely hand-decorated, dating from the mid-19th century. The work belongs to the renowned iconographic production of the 'Mestieri'—a theme much cherished by the great European manufactories of the 19th century (such as Ginori in Doccia or the Neapolitan manufactories of the Grand Tour).
Subject and Decoration:
The center of the plate features a miniature of the highest quality depicting the “Public Scrivener.” The scene is rich in historical detail: the craftsman sits at his writing desk with an inkwell and papers, while a sign reads the fascinating inscription: “Si scrive e si traduce il Francese,” testifying to the importance of the French language in Europe of that era.
The painting quality is excellent, with rendering of faces and fabrics typical of porcelain painting from the early nineteenth century.
The Edge (Tesa):
The band is lavishly decorated with a relief band of solid gold, featuring geometric and floral motifs in the Restoration/Empire style. The brilliance of the gold and the precision of the engraving suggest high-quality craftsmanship.
This type of dish was often part of exclusive sets consisting of twelve or more pieces, each depicting a different trade. It is an object of great visual impact and indisputable historical value, perfect for completing Italian porcelain collections or for display as a single antique piece.
