Decorative hippo-shaped box in silver and enamel from Italy, by Codevilla, dating to 1960–1970, measuring 4.5 × 2.5 × 2 cm, 42 g, made of .925 silver with multicolour enamel, hinged opening with a gilded interior and four integrated feet, in good used condition with minor age-related wear.
Description from the seller
Decorative enamelled silver box in the shape of a hippopotamus, Italian-made in the 20th century, branded CODEVILLA.
The object is made of silver and is crafted with great care, depicting a stylized hippopotamus with a rounded, bulging body. The surface is enhanced by a refined multicolored glaze, predominantly blue, worked with engravings that simulate the texture of the skin. Small light-colored details on the muzzle give expressiveness and character to the figure.
The little box opens with a zipper, and the interior is gold-plated—a typical protective finish used on silver objects intended to hold small items.
It rests on four integrated feet built into the form, which guarantee stability and stylistic continuity.
On the bottom there is the mark “CODEVILLA,” attributable to Italian production of artistic silverware in the twentieth century, accompanied by the model number and a punch mark.
An elegant, collectible item, ideal for collectors of figurative silver, lovers of enameled boxes, and collections of animal-themed objects.
Condition: good, with normal signs of wear over time and slight wear to the enamel and silver, consistent with age (see photo).
Measurements: cm 4.5x2.5x2. Weight: 42 g
Origin: Italy
