Description from the seller
The Babanki stool (or Grassfields stool) is an iconic piece of Cameroonian craftsmanship, originating from the North-West region. More than just a seat, it is an object imbued with symbolism, historically associated with prestige and power.
Originally, these stools were intended for the Fons (kings) and dignitaries during important ceremonies (royal weddings, funerals, coronations). The stool is traditionally carved from a single block of wood (often cedar or ebony), without nails or joints.
Circular Structure: The platform and the base are round, symbolizing the unity of the tribe and social harmony.
Lattice motifs: The body of the stool is often hollowed out and decorated with complex sculptures.
Dimension: 410 mm / 420 mm, thus 41 cm / 42 cm in height and width.
