EO; Congo Couleur Nuit is a first edition hardcover photography book by Osvalde Lewat, published by Editions Phenix in 2015 in French, 147 pages, signed by the author and in as-new condition.
Description from the seller
Original 2015 edition, in as-new condition, enriched by a signed inscription from the author: Osvalde Lewat.
Congo Couleur Nuit is Osvalde Lewat’s first major photographic book, from a photographer, filmmaker and documentary-maker of Cameroonian origin, devoted to her nocturnal travels in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The book gathers a series of night-time shots, capturing the urban and human atmospheres of cities such as Kinshasa, Lubumbashi, and the shores of Lake Mwero.
Here, night is treated as a visual material in its own right, where light—natural or artificial—sculpts singular atmospheres, silhouettes, and scenes of life that reveal a vibrant, intimate, and contrasting humanity.
It is enriched by several written contributions that bring varied perspectives on the work and its photographic context:
- Preface by Yannick Vigouroux (photographer and art historian), which situates the work in the history of the image and the contemporary gaze.
- A text by Georges Arthur Forrest that evokes the Democratic Republic of the Congo in its geographic and social diversity.
- Afterword by Lye Mudaba Yoka, offering a literary or reflective reading of the entire work.
The Congo Colour Night project was born from three years of photographic work in Africa, mainly in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where Osvalde Lewat captured scenes of Congolese nightlife, exploring social intimacy, poverty, joy, and the hope present in those moments.
