White glazed ceramic candle holder/decorative object in the shape of a sphere by Jan van der Vaart, made in his own workshop as part of the 'Multiple' series (1967–1997). Very rare collectible object. Rarely offered. Unmarked, which is common for this candle holder.

Jan van der Vaart was already considered during his lifetime to be one of the most important Dutch ceramists of the 20th century. As the founder of a geometric abstract style within post-war ceramics, he was particularly influential both domestically and internationally. His work is highly recognizable due to its distinctive character and the logical and consistent development of his artistic beliefs.
His work is housed in various major international leading museums such as:
MoMA New York, Victoria and Albert Museum London
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen Rotterdam
Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and in private collections.
There is currently a retrospective exhibition of his work at the Kunstmuseum Den Haag from 15 November 2025 to 25 October 2026.
