AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Pile: 100% wool
Warp & weft: 100% cotton
Quality: Hand-knotted
Knot density: 350,000 per m²
Pile height: 8 mm Origin: Pakistan

Our Samarkand carpets derive their name from a traditional trading hub in the East—the city of Samarkand in Uzbekistan. Samarkand carpets were produced in the late 19th century by the renowned Swiss trading family Ziegler. Due to political unrest in the Persian Empire and the strong Western demand for carpets, Ziegler decided to establish its own production in Sultanabad, Pakistan, and hire some of the finest carpet weavers to meet this growing demand. Samarkand carpets are handwoven with about 350,000 knots per square meter and promise exceptionally high quality.

Today, Samarkand carpets stand for exceptional quality and modern, Oriental-inspired patterns. The rugs draw their inspiration from traditional Persian rug designs. The wool used is of high quality, and the color palette composed of natural plant dyes is softer and subtler than that of Persian rugs. The shorter pile makes the rug easy to keep clean.
