Baluch Afghan rug, model Baluch Afghan, country of origin Pakistan, hand-knotted, wool on cotton, 144 by 89 cm.
Description from the seller
Pile: 100% Wool
Warp & Weft: 100% Cotton
Quality: Hand-knotted
Knot count: approx. 160,000 / m2
Pile height: 8 mm
Origin: Afghanistan
The Baluch carpets (also Belutsch) originate from a nomadic ethnic group from the Belutschistan region, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They live from agriculture, carpet production, as well as sheep, goat and camel husbandry. Traditionally the carpets are made from sheep wool or goat hair from the tribes’ own herds. Due to their tribal origin, the carpets are typically smaller because of the high transport needs, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs, and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown, or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow, or orange tones. Baluch carpets are comparatively thin, yet rather densely woven, making them soft and flexible. Perfect for everyday use and a lot of movement. Even today these carpets still offer an excellent price-performance ratio as well as outstanding durability.
