Description from the seller
Pile: % Wool
Weft & Warp: 100% Cotton
Quality: Hand-knotted
Knot density: ca. 160,000 / m2
Pile height: 8 mm
Origin: Afghanistan
The Baluch carpets (also Belutsch) come from a nomadic people in the Baluchistan region, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They live from farming, carpet production, and sheep, goat, and camel husbandry. Traditionally, the carpets are made from sheep wool or goat hair from the tribes’ own herds. Because of their tribal origin, the carpets are usually smaller due to high transportation needs, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs, and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown, or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow, or orange tones. Baluch carpets are relatively thin but rather densely woven, making them soft and flexible. Perfect for daily use and with a lot of movement. Even today, these carpets offer an excellent price-performance ratio as well as outstanding durability.
