Description from the seller
Pile: % Wool
Warp & Weft: 100% cotton
Quality: Hand-knotted
Knot count: approx. 160,000 / m2
Pile height: 8 mm
Origin: Afghanistan
The Baluch carpets (also Belutch) come from a nomadic people from the Baluchistan region, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They live from agriculture, rug production, and sheep, goat, and camel husbandry. Traditionally the carpets are made from sheep wool or goat hair from the tribes’ own herds. Because of their tribal origin, the carpets are typically smaller due to the high transport requirements, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs, and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown, or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow, or orange tones. Baluch carpets are relatively thin, but rather densely woven, making them soft and flexible. Perfect for daily use and plenty of movement. Even today these carpets still offer excellent value for money and outstanding durability.
