Description from the seller
Pile: 100% Wool
Warp & Weft: 100% Cotton
Quality: Hand-knotted
Knot count: approx. 160,000 per m2
Pile height: 8 mm
Origin: Afghanistan
The Baluch carpets (also Belutsch) come from a nomadic people in the Baluchistan region, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They earn their living from agriculture, carpet production, and the raising of sheep, goats, and camels. Traditionally the carpets are made from sheep wool or goat hair from the tribes' own herds. Because of their tribal origin, the carpets are generally smaller due to the high transportation needs, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs, and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown, or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow, or orange tones. Baluch carpets are comparatively thin, yet rather densely woven, which makes them soft and flexible. Perfect for daily use and a lot of movement. Even today these carpets still offer an excellent price-performance ratio as well as outstanding durability.
