Pakistan Baluch Afghan, hand-knotted rug from the 21st century, 133 × 80 cm, wool on cotton, ca. 160,000 knots per m2, pile height 8 mm, professionally cleaned and in very good condition.
Description from the seller
Pile: wool
Warp & weft: 100% cotton
Quality: handmade
Knot count: ca. 160,000 / m2
Pile height: 8 mm
Origin: Afghanistan
The Baluch carpets (also Belutsch) come from a nomadic people in the Beluchistan region, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They live from agriculture, carpet production, as well as sheep, goat, and camel herding. Traditionally the carpets are made from sheep wool or goat hair from the tribes’ own flocks. Because of their tribal origin, the carpets are generally smaller due to the high transport needs, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs, and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown, or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow, or orange tones. Baluch carpets are comparatively thin, yet quite densely woven, making them soft and flexible. Perfect for daily use and a lot of movement. Even today these carpets still offer an excellent price–performance ratio as well as outstanding durability.
