The Baluch carpets (also Belutsch) originate from a nomadic people in the region of Balochistan, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They live from agriculture, carpet production, as well as sheep, goat and camel herding. Traditionally the carpets are made from sheep wool or camel hair from the tribes’ own herds. Due to their tribal origin, the carpets are generally smaller because of the high transport needs, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow, or orange tones. Baluch carpets are comparatively thin, yet rather densely woven, which makes them soft and flexible. Perfect for daily use and a lot of movement. Even today these carpets still offer an excellent price–performance ratio as well as outstanding durability.
