Description from the seller
Pile: % Wool
Weft & Warp: 100% cotton
Quality: Hand-knotted
Knot count: approx. 160,000 / m2
Pile height: 8 mm
Origin: Afghanistan
The Baluch rugs (also Belutsch) come from a nomadic people from the Baluchistan region, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They live from agriculture, rug production, and sheep, goat, and camel herding. Traditionally the carpets are made from sheep’s wool or goat hair from the tribes’ own herds. Due to their tribal origin, the carpets are usually smaller due to the high transportation needs, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs, and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown, or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow, or orange tones. Baluch rugs are relatively thin, yet quite densely woven, making them soft and flexible. Perfect for daily use and high traffic. Even today these rugs still offer an excellent value for money as well as outstanding durability.
