Description from the seller
Pile: % Wool
Weft & Warp: 100% cotton
Quality: Hand-knotted
Knot count: approx. 160,000 / m2
Pile height: 8 mm
Origin: Afghanistan
The Baluch carpets (also Belutsch) originate from a nomadic people from the Beluchistan region, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They live from agriculture, rug production, as well as sheep, goats and camel husbandry. Traditionally the carpets are made from wool from sheep or hair from goats from the tribes’ own herds. Due to their tribal origin, the carpets are usually smaller, reflecting the high transport needs, and they feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow or orange tones. Baluch carpets are relatively thin, but rather densely woven, making them soft and flexible. Perfect for daily use and with a lot of movement. Even today these carpets still offer an excellent price–performance ratio as well as outstanding durability.
