Model Baluch Afghan, origin Pakistan, size 144 by 86 cm, hand-knotted with a wool pile on a cotton foundation.
Description from the seller
Pile: % Wool
Weft & Warp: 100% cotton
Quality: Hand-knotted
Knot count: approx. 160,000 per m2
Pile height: 8 mm
Origin: Afghanistan
The Baluch carpets (also Belouch) originate from a nomadic people from the Baluchistan region, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They live from agriculture, carpet production, as well as sheep, goat, and camel husbandry. Traditionally the carpets are made from sheep wool or goat hair from the tribes’ own herds. Because of their tribal origin, the carpets are typically smaller due to the high transportation needs, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs, and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown, or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow, or orange tones. Baluch carpets are relatively thin, yet they are quite densely woven, making them soft and flexible. Perfect for everyday use and much movement. Even today, these carpets still offer an excellent price–performance ratio as well as outstanding durability.
