Description from the seller
Pile: 100% wool
Weft & Warp: 100% cotton
Quality: Hand-knotted
Knot count: approx. 160,000 / m2
Pile height: 8 mm
Origin: Afghanistan
The Baluch carpets (also Belutsch) originate from a nomadic ethnic group from the Baluchistan region, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They make a living from agriculture, rug production, and the breeding of sheep, goats, and camels. Traditionally, the carpets are produced from sheep wool or goat hair from the tribes’ own herds. Because of their tribal origin, the carpets are typically smaller due to the high transport requirements, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs, and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown, or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow, or orange tones. Baluch carpets are relatively thin, yet quite densely woven, which makes them soft and flexible. Perfect for daily use and a lot of movement. Even today these carpets still offer an excellent price–performance ratio as well as outstanding durability.
