Description from the seller
Pile: Wool
Warp & Weft: 100% cotton
Quality: Hand-knotted
Knots per m²: approx. 160,000
Pile height: 8 mm
Origin: Afghanistan
The Baluch carpets (also Belutsch) originate from a nomadic people in the Beluchistan region, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They make their living from agriculture, carpet production, and sheep-, goat- and camel-keeping. Traditionally the carpets are made from sheep wool or goat hair from the tribes’ own herds. Due to their tribal origin, the carpets are typically smaller because of the high transport requirement, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs, and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown, or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow, or orange tones. Baluch carpets are relatively thin, but rather densely woven, which makes them soft and flexible. Perfect for everyday use and high traffic. Even today these carpets still offer an excellent price–performance ratio as well as outstanding durability.
