The Baluch rugs (also Belutsch) come from a nomadic people of the Baluchistan region, a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. They live from farming, rug production, and sheep, goat, and camel husbandry. Traditionally, the rugs are made from sheep wool or goat hair from the tribes’ own herds. Due to their tribal origin, the rugs are generally smaller because of the high transport needs, feature geometric patterns or stylized floral motifs, and are hand-knotted. The classic dark red, brown, or blue backgrounds are often contrasted with lively patterns in white, ivory, yellow, or orange tones. Baluch rugs are comparatively thin, yet quite densely woven, which makes them soft and flexible. Perfect for everyday use and a lot of movement. Even today these rugs still offer an excellent price–performance ratio as well as outstanding durability.
