Magnificent elephant sculpture, executed entirely by hand by a renowned Murano glass master from the Tagliapietra family, using the chalcedony glass technique. Its distinctive colors come from the chalcedony technique; the coloring effect is achieved by adding to the molten glass a mixture based on various metallic oxides. The results are incredible.
This particular craftsmanship was invented in Venice in the late 15th century but only became famous later.
Chalcedony glass is a particular type of decorative glass obtained by mixing metals of different colors, mostly green and purple, to imitate semi-precious stones such as agate, chalcedony, onyx, malachite, lapis lazuli and jasper.
