Islamic Samanid ceramic splashware bowl from the 10th century CE, with a glaze-splash decoration on an engobe, diameter 19.7 cm and height 5.8 cm, in good condition and repaired from several pieces with original pigment and glaze, acquired from Galerie/Antiquaire in France in 2023 from the Paris-based collection of the 1950s–1970s provenance.

Western Asia, Persia, circa 10th century CE.
Bowl with 'splashware' decoration in earthenware ceramic, featuring a geometric pattern incised under green glazes.
This fully glazed plate with sgraffito and jasper decoration is a fine example of this typology, produced in Islamic countries between the 10th and 13th centuries.
The decoration, on white slip, consists of motifs incised in spirals and tendrils framed by curved lines, splashed with yellow-brown and green glazes beneath a transparent glaze.
Samanid Art, 10th century AD.
Dimensions: diameter 19.7 cm, height 5.8 cm - Good condition.
Repaired from several pieces, with the original pigment and glaze, small chips in the decoration.
Provenance: France, R.L.C. Studio
Previously: a Parisian collection of Mr. and Mrs. L.R., formed in the 1950s–1970s, passed down through the family.
