Antique saloon sofa, circa 1850–1900, crafted in walnut wood with red upholstery, in an antique Louis-Philippe‑style silhouette, made in France, 202 cm long, 88 cm high, 80 cm deep, with a seating height of 41 cm.
Description from the seller
Antique button-tufted sofa – 19th century – Louis-Philippe style
Very fine antique salon sofa from the 19th century, executed in the Louis-Philippe / Rococo Revival style. Probably, therefore, not certainly originating from France. Perhaps Belgium.
The sofa is characterized by an elegant, gently curved backrest, richly tufted upholstery, and a finely carved solid wood frame.
The wooden frame is crafted with graceful cabriole legs and hand-carved details on the back and armrests. The sofa has subsequently been reupholstered with a deep red velour/plush fabric, which gives the furniture a luxurious and theatrical appearance. The upholstery is in good condition and neatly finished.
This type of sofa was originally used in salons and reception rooms in affluent homes and was intended as a showpiece of furniture.
