Description from the seller
A unique and rare vintage figurative tea service from the Art Deco period, rendered in a playful cartoon style that strongly evokes the early animation and comic culture of the 1930s.
The set consists of cups and saucers with hand-painted cartoon figures, complemented by a teapot, sugar pot, and milk jug that are all designed as figures. This type of so-called novelty ceramics was very popular in the interwar period and was often produced in limited editions.
The warm honey-colored glaze with green accents, combined with the expressive design, makes this tableware a striking and decorative whole. Such complete sets are rare nowadays, especially in this condition.
Although the china is unobtrusive, its style, design, and finish point to a European production from the early 20th century. Highly prized by collectors of:
Art Deco ceramics
Figurative design
Vintage pop culture
Cartoon and character merchandise
Composition of the plot
1 teapot (figurative)
1 sugar pot (figuratively)
1 milk can (figuratively)
Several teacups with matching saucers (see photos)
