Agfa Karat 3.5 35 mm viewfinder camera from the late 1930s in good cosmetic condition and tested and working with a Solinar 50mm f/3.5 lens and Compur-Rapid shutter.
Description from the seller
Offered is a beautiful Agfa Karat 3.5, a pioneering 35mm compact camera from the late 1930s. This model represents the second major version of the Karat series, featuring the more refined Art Deco-styled body and the collapsible bellows mechanism that allowed for a very slim profile when not in use.
This specific example is the higher-end version of its time, equipped with the premium 4-element Agfa Solinar 50mm f/3.5 lens and the high-speed Compur-Rapid shutter. Unlike standard 35mm cameras of the era, the Karat originally used a specialized "Karat" rapid cassette system.
Specifications
Camera Type: Viewfinder camera with collapsible front
Lens: Agfa Solinar 50mm f/3.5
Shutter: Compur-Rapid with speeds from 1 to 1/500 second + B
Aperture: f/3.5 to f/32
Construction: Metal body with Art Deco horizontal ribbing
Film Type: 35mm (requires Karat/Rapid cassettes)
Condition
Cosmetic: In good vintage condition. The Art Deco body panels show some age-related wear, but the metal top and bottom plates remain very presentable.
Mechanical: Shutter fires and the speeds appear to respond. The bellows mechanism opens and locks correctly.
Optical: The Solinar lens glass is in good condition for its age; clear with no major scratches or fungus visible.
Viewfinder: Built-in viewfinder is functional and reasonably clear.
Please note: This camera uses the specific Agfa Karat/Rapid cassette system, not standard 35mm spools. The camera has not been tested with film. The images are an integral part of the description.
