Description from the seller

Very fine antique Russian icon/triptych icon featuring the 'Resurrection of Christ, Mother of God of Vladimir, and other saints (including St. John the Baptist)' from the 18th century (circa 1780).

Hand-painted with egg tempera paints on a wooden panel with a chalk ground.

Typical method of icon creation in 18th and 19th century Tsarist Russia. The motifs are widespread and very popular in the Orthodox Church. This is a typical commissioned icon that was created in an Old Believer workshop.

The painting is quite masterful and detailed. Perfectly coordinated color contrasts and successful shading. The painting contains very authentic crackles (see photos).

Partial restorations are present (see photos).

Especially expressive and striking are the faces of the saints (see photos). The saints are labeled. The labels are clearly legible.

The icon is in good condition with typical age-related signs of wear (see photos).

An icon for collectors and connoisseurs of the subject.

All details are clearly visible in the photos. Photos are part of the description.

Dimensions: 31.5 x 27 x 3.4 cm
