Terracotta mantel figurine by Abicht & Co., Thuringen (Germany), dating to 1875–1930, depicting a lady in antique style, weight 3.1 kg, dimensions 31 cm wide by 23 cm high by 15 cm deep, in fair condition with some damages or missing parts, marked Schutz Marke Deponirt indicating a registered design.
Description from the seller
This is a rare terracotta figurine produced in the late early 1900's. It was made by the Ilmenau company Abicht & Co. This mark dates it to 1875-1930.
The inscription "Schutz Marke Deponirt" on the figurine refers to a trademark registration. The German phrase translates to "Protection Mark Registered," meaning the design of the item was protected under German or Austrian law during the late 19th or early 20th century.
"Deponirt" (an older spelling of deponiert) acts similarly to a patent or copyright mark, indicating that the manufacturer officially recorded the design to prevent unauthorized copying. It is not a manufacturer's name itself, but rather a legal notification often accompanied by a specific company's logo or initials elsewhere on the piece.
The item itself is identified through visual search as an antique German or Austrian terracotta or earthenware mantel figure group with an orientalist theme, often referred to as "Deponirt pottery".
The items is in a fair condition with some little damages.
