This topaz is from the legendary pink topaz Katlang mine, this is the only pink topaz producing mine in all of asia, and one of the very few in the world producing such a beautiful imperial pink color which very rare. Most topaz that is pink is treated, which makes this topaz especially rare because it’s naturally formed NO TREATMENT, it is due to the trace elements chromium and it is formed uniquely through Pneumatolysis which is different from a lot of topaz formation as they usually form in pegmatite, but this forms by gasses cooling and crystallising. This rare formation pathway contributes to both the unique color and scarcity of Katlang topaz. Not only that the topaz is mined in small quantity and is rare miners find pockets sometimes, but they mine for slate and tiles, the topaz is rare to find, with mining currently not stable due to many reasons.
This specimen has other smaller crystal and shows the unique geology of the area, perfect for scientific study or research revealing the story of the formation of such unique gems.
Here at Origin Gems we are proud to have been to the mines in Katlang and directly support the local mining community. You can see photographs of me and my team visiting the mine with mining entrance and miners mining, a drone shot of the famous mine hill, and ourselves with this lovely specimen at the site. The miners use blasting and drills to crack the rock to make slate and tiles for construction, and sometimes they find pockets of topaz, but pink is rare making this specimen even more attractive.
Pictures have been taken using natural and led lighting, no filters have been applied, color may vary depending on your screen.
