Description from the seller
Decorative earthenware vase with artichoke relief, from the Saint-Clément Faience Factory (Lorraine), model and decorative vocabulary typical of the house.
The silhouette is oval and well-proportioned: a small collar with a rounded ring, a polished and even lip, a short shoulder that quickly transitions into a broad, bulging abdomen, then a clear return to a tucked-in heel that secures the base. The balance of the volumes gives a compact and elegant presence, intended to emphasize the raised relief of the decoration.
The motif echoes the structure of artichoke bracts arranged in overlapping scales. The edges form a lattice of points and diamonds that rhythmically traverses the body. The relief, molded cleanly and then softened, catches the light in high glazed areas while the hollows remain more satin; the gilded highlights emphasize each vein and reinforce the vegetal effect. The glaze presents a nuanced olive/khaki grey tone (small variations in the glaze visible during turning), with a steady, deep gloss. The interior is glazed for practical use, the underside left more matte on the contact edge.
Form number 153 (marked under the base) refers to the factory's internal pattern catalog; this type of numbering is common at Saint-Clément for its decorative shapes. The vase is in perfect condition, with no cracks, no chips, and no restoration; gilding and glaze are uniform, with a very beautiful surface patina.
The Saint-Clément faience factory was founded in 1758 as a 'satellite' of Lunéville by Jacques Chambrette, then follows its own trajectory before being merged with Lunéville under Keller & Guérin at the end of the 19th century. The house is renowned for its molded decorative forms, its highlights (including gilding) and, later, for its Art Deco and modern lines; specialized sources recall this history and the passage under K&G that energized artistic production.
The dimensions are:
Height: 18.5 centimeters.
- Width: 16 centimeters,
Maximum diameter: 7 centimeters.
- Base diameter: 10.3 centimeters.
- Weight: 700 grams.
The vase will be carefully packed and shipped quickly in a secure manner. On-site pickup and grouped delivery are available. The photos are part of the description.
