Description from the seller
Studio Harcourt of Paris, formerly known as Studio Harcourt, is a photography studio founded in 1933 by Cosette Harcourt at No. 11 on Christophe-Colomb Street in Paris. In 1934, the Lacroix brothers were brought on as press chiefs and Robert Ricci, son of Nina Ricci. This studio is well known for its black-and-white photographs of film stars and celebrities. Having a photograph taken at the studio was considered a hallmark of the French upper middle class.
Cosette Harcourt began specializing in photographs of movie stars and French culture with glamour in black and white. The photos were taken with a luminous and distinctive style that was highly recognizable. This typical Harcourt style consisted of a close-up portrait, with its best lighting, where a halo of lights and shadows was usually created over a background ranging from gray to black. The subject's attitude was personal, often with a slight smile. Harcourt appears very prominent in every photograph.
