Behind the Glass is a 2018 first edition limited hardcover photobook by Alexandra Catiere, published by Chose Commune, in French and English, with 256 pages of black-and-white photographs.
Description from the seller
A constellation of photographs, Behind the GlassWraps portraits, landscapes and photograms in blacks, grays and whites.
The title of this volume, Behind the Glass, reuses the title of the series that Alexandra Catiere produced in Minsk and Moscow in 2005-2006. Imagined and designed by Chose Commune, this book brings into dialogue this first series, still unpublished, with a selection of other works, notably a new corpus of photograms — the artist’s latest experiments without a camera, conducted in a darkroom with light, light-sensitive paper, pebbles, and grass.
Over the last fifteen years, Alexandra Catiere has illuminated faces, bodies, and things that weave an affective and intimate narrative. Behind the Glass was conceived in such a way that everyone can contemplate this photographic fresco in their own way: each two-page spread unfolds to reveal another image. The constellation of photographs presented here forms a new portrait of life, through what has crossed her path.
