In October 2010, the Louis Vuitton Foundation is organizing a major retrospective exhibition dedicated to the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988), one of the most influential painters of the 20th century and an icon of contemporary art. Mirroring the exhibition, this monographic catalog spans the painter's entire career from 1980 to 1988, focusing on some one hundred of his most decisive works. This book-catalogue includes collections never before seen in Europe, essential works, and paintings rarely seen since their first presentations during the artist's lifetime. The existential character of the line in Basquiat, as in Schiele, is one of the common threads identified by Dieter Buchhart, curator of the two major events of the Parisian artistic season.
