Italian origin, a matrimonial bedspread in raw silk, satin and cotton dating from 1850–1900, measuring 226 cm wide by 220 cm long with a 13 cm fringe on three sides and an orange embroidered background.
Description from the seller
Impressive double bedspread in raw silk, satin and cotton from the late 1800s to early 1900s, of large dimensions. After all, old beds had dimensions different from modern ones and mattresses were made to measure as were the related linen; in fact its measurements are 226 cm in width by 220 cm in length, with a 13 cm fringe added on three sides. On a modern bed with a classic 80 cm mattress it reaches the floor, dressing the bed in an elegant way and giving it a sober, restrained tone.
The dominant color is a light orange almost mustard, with a warm background that blends easily with home colors, and above all the whole bedspread is embroidered with frames of flowers and hieroglyphs in violet, salmon and gold.
It is all embroidery across the entire bedspread. A very beautiful combination of colors. The photos speak more than words: it is embroidery and not print; you can tell by the reverse side.
Splendid the straight fringe with a band of passementerie that echoes the same colors. It is all embroidery with flowers and hieroglyphs on the head section, in the center a large rosette, at the corners and the lower part a series of circles with a Flower inside.
In the lower part there are geometric designs.
A very particular bedspread because it is different from the usual damasks.
It is part of the trousseau collection of mine and this, like many others, is in good condition and I assume used little given the multitude they had. It has no stains and the fringe is in good condition.
A separate note deserves the imposing fringe which echoes the orange color and has a straight band of passementerie, and then there is the straight fringe, all 13 cm high. The fringe is on three sides.
Overall, I would say it is a very particular bedspread, different from the usual ones seen on the market. The fabric is splendid. Typically those with floral patterns are damask and of smooth silk. Its hue and the rich embroidery across the entire bedspread up to the fringe and on the part that covers the pillows, and its dimensions attribute its true value.
Even the heavy, sturdy fabric clothes the bed perfectly, while at the same time giving it softness and elegance. An object of a bygone era but still current for those who love the past. It could also serve as a table cover with embroidery on top. When an object is beautiful, it always finds use, even as a sofa cover given its size.
For shipping I use private couriers and not the post office, because it arrives sooner and has double packaging and communication is simpler.
Shipping costs vary depending on whether it is Europe, band 1 or 2 such as United Kingdom, Switzerland, Eastern Europe; band 3 such as Norway, Malta, Cyprus and the rest of the world.
Customs duties will be at the buyer’s expense.
