Rare Italian .800 silver oval devotional plaque, Baroque style, 11.3 cm × 16 cm × 1.5 cm and 36 g, dating to 1800–1850, depicting the Holy Trinity with Saints Cosmas and Damian, with the original top ring for ex voto or private devotion.
Description from the seller
Rare and significant silver devotional plaque, crafted by repoussé and chasing, oval in shape, depicting the Holy Trinity flanked by Saints Cosmas and Damian, holy physicians and martyrs, particularly revered in popular and confraternal contexts.
In the upper part, the Trinity is depicted according to traditional iconography, with angelic figures in glory, while in the lower part Saints Cosmas and Damian appear, recognizable by their clothing and their hieratic bearing, posed frontally and haloed. The scene is framed by rich vegetal motifs and Baroque volutes, which accentuate the solemn character of the work.
The object features a top original ring, a feature that indicates its use as an ex voto, votive plaque, or object of private devotion, intended for domestic chapels, altars, or oratories.
The quality of the workmanship, with deep drapery, precise modeling, and strong plastic rendering, recalls a production from a good workshop, dating to the late 18th to the 19th century, probably in an Italian milieu.
