Description from the seller
Vintage Industrial Desk Lamp – Black Bauhaus Style – 1930s/50s – Fully Restored
A striking and timeless piece of early industrial design, this vintage desk lamp blends Bauhaus minimalism with rugged factory functionality. Produced in Hungary between the 1930s and 1950s, it was originally designed for use in professional workshops or technical institutions.
Its domed metal shade, curved arm, and distinctive cast iron base give it a commanding presence on any desk or side table. The black paint, worn beautifully with age, retains its raw charm and authenticity.
Now rewired with a new cable and tested, the lamp is fully functional and ready for use.
Features:
Era: Circa 1930s–1950s
Origin: Hungary,
Manufacturer: MEZ
Style: Bauhaus / Functionalist / Early Industrial
Material: All metal construction – cast base, steel arm, metal shade
Color: Original black paint with visible patina and paint loss
Electrical: New black cable, white on/off switch on the base
Condition: Working and safe – wear and scuffing consistent with vintage age
Use: Ideal for home offices, studios, or loft-style interiors
This lamp is a true artifact of design history — collectible, stylish, and built to last.
This lamp is a textbook example of Bauhaus-inspired industrial design, dating approximately from the 1930s–1950s, with strong influences from functionalist German and Eastern European workshop lighting. The clean lines, lack of ornament, and robust cast metal base reflect the Bauhaus school’s philosophy of “form follows function.
Very much in line with the early work of Christian Dell and Kaiser Idell, this lamp echoes the same curved arm, oval base, and metal dome shade that were used in schoolrooms, factories, and drafting offices throughout Central and Eastern Europe.
