Gothic bronze plaque of the Madonna of Lourdes, a devotional object from France dating to the mid-18th century, made of metal and in good condition.
Description from the seller
Bronze Gothic religious plaque of the Miraculous Madonna of Lourdes.
The object depicts the apparition of the Virgin Mary to Saint Bernadette Soubirous at the Massabielle Grotto in Lourdes, France.
Iconography: In the center is depicted the Virgin Mary standing on a rock, with hands clasped in prayer. On the left, in a lower position, Saint Bernadette is seen kneeling.
Context: In the background, to the right, the stylized façade of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes is visible.
Inscription: Along the upper edge there is the partial inscription "N. D. DE LOURDES" (Notre Dame de Lourdes).
Material and Style: The object appears to be made of metal (likely bronze or brass, given the wear and patina) and is framed in a decorative mount with a bow on top, suggesting that it may be a small tabletop object or an era devotional souvenir.
