Large 18th-century pewter wine jug in baluster form, made in Northwest Europe (probably the Netherlands or Germany). The jug features a slender rising neck, a globular body with a ring-shaped profile in the middle, and a substantial handle with a thumb rest. Equipped with a hinged lid, suitable for use as a wine or pouring jug.

The design is sober Baroque, characteristic of 18th-century utilitarian use: functional, sturdy and without decorative embellishment. The form and proportions point to domestic or inn use. At the bottom, there is a pewter hallmark consisting of a crown with the letters ‘N D’ above a floral motif. The mark can be interpreted as a quality or guild hallmark, but it is not unambiguously attributable to a specific pewterer or city, though it is consistent with the period.

The wine jug is in good, honest condition, with normal signs of use and age, and a nice, authentic patina. No cracks or visible restorations. The lid and hinge function properly.
